State Capital Tour

Our November meeting was held on Friday Nov 4th and featured 2 tours of the State Capital in Topeka.  We started off with a dome tour which had us climbing 296 steps past the interior dome to the top of the exterior dome. Although the day was overcast with some showers, it still offered great 360 degree views of Topeka.  After the dome tour, we went on a historical tour.  The history started back at the construction of the building, and followed through the many modifications that occurred over the years.  We saw the House of Representatives, Senate, and the Governors office.  Probably most impressive were the wide variety of murals and artwork that adorn the halls and rotunda.  Each featured a different Kansas landscape, event, or person in our state history.  After the tour we headed across the street to The Pennant restaurant to visit with the other attendees, and the 2 members that joined us from the Wichita chapter. Thanks to all those who were able to join us, and if you haven’t been on the tours, we highly recommend them.

KC IISE 50th Anniversary and Networking Event

The KC IISE Chapter celebrated their 50th Anniversary on June 9th at the beautiful Stone Hill Winery in Olathe, KS.  We were joined by Dr. Brad Kramer, IMSE Dept Head at Kansas State University and Dr. James Noble, IMSE Dept Head at the University of Missouri to share the latest news in their departments.  The event also served as a fundraiser for scholarship awards that we give to IE students at these two programs, as well as MS&T.  We’d like to extend our appreciation to our sponsors for the raffle who helped us raise these funds.  We were also able to recognize past KC IISE presidents and past regional vice presidents who have come from our chapter!

Happy Bottoms Volunteer Event Recap

Thanks to all who joined us at Happy Bottoms on 2-22-22!   We were able to use our efficiency skills to line balance the work, deploy floaters to assist bottlenecks, and ensure great quality!  Most importantly, we had a great time helping Happy Bottoms in their effort to distribute 2.7 Million diapers to needy families each year.  They are always in need of both volunteers and welcome donations. Please check their website for more information. AND they are conveniently located right across the street from KC Bier, which was a perfect spot to socialize afterwards!
