More about 2015 Mentor Day!

Rather than dividing the students across several different companies in Kansas City, we would like to bring all of the Mentors and Students together to one location, so that we can all benefit from meeting other IIE Members and hearing about their expertise and experiences.

The day will include a factory tour followed by a lunch and networking session.

The tour location is the Mars plant in Topeka, Kansas, which opened in 2014.  Here we will see first-hand the production and packaging of M&Ms and Snickers.  The state of the art 500,000 square foot facility produces close to 10 million candy items each day, and that accounts for only about two-fifths of its capacity! The factory is applying for a LEED gold certification and plans to not send any waste to landfills.

Following the tour, we will have lunch as a group. Mentors will have an opportunity to share their career experiences and advice, and students will have an opportunity to share their experiences and ask questions.

This is a great opportunity for the students to learn more about the field of Industrial Engineering, and great for Mentors as well.  We are looking for Mentors to participate in the tour and share your work experience and insights with the students.  This is an opportunity for you to give back, stay connected with these two great universities, and possibly some future recruitment!
